The wedding and reception will be held at the Greenbrier Hotel and Resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.  It is one of our favorite vacation spots in the foothils of the Alleghany Mountains and we are looking forward to sharing this special place with all of our guests.

The Hotel itself is rich in history, established in 1778 the Greenbrier has been a popular summer retreat for southern arristocrats drawn to the area by the "healing powers" of the natural sulphur springs in a practice called "taking the waters."  The hotel that stands today was built in 1853 and served as a rest stop for both the Confederate and Union armies during the Civil War.  After the war the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway purchased the resort in 1910 and provided easy access via the local train route and it was a popular post-war desitnation for many families.

During World War II, the U.S. Government purchased the resort and it served both as an army hospital and as a relocation center for some of the Axis diplomats still within the United States.  After the war ended, C&O bought back the property from the government and reopened the resort and during the 1950's the resort underwent a massive expansion.  Little did guests know that during the construction of the new wing the U.S. Government built a secret bunker called "Project Greek Island"  and for thirty years, The Greenbrier owners maintained an agreement with the federal government that, in the event of an international crisis, the entire resort property would be conveyed to government use, specifically as the emergency location for the legislative branch.

The resort has been host to many famous guests including Duke of Windsor with his wife, Wallis Simpson, Bing Crosby, and The Kennedys. In recent history, the resort has hosted several presidents and vice-presidents, foreign dignitaries such as Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi, Debby Reynolds, and Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco.
